Replacing a toilet may seem daunting but it’s actually a pretty simple thing to do.

Tools needed:
Adjustable wrench or socket set
Flat head screw driver
Small hacksaw
Putty knife
Protective gloves
Large rag
Bucket
Large sponge
Silicone caulk

Materials:
A new toilet
Wax seal

Before you begin, carefully read the manufacturers installation instructions.

Step By Step:

Step 1– Remove the wax seal and let it sit at room temperature to soften up.
Step 2– Shut off the cold water supply valve.
Step 3– Unscrew the mounting screws and remove the old toilet.
Step 4– Scrape off the old wax ring using the putty knife.
Step 5– Block the drain pipe with the rag to keep sewer gas from wafting up.
Step 6– Install the rubber gasket on the tank and place the tank on the bowl.
Step 7– Secure the tank to the bowl using the supplied hardware. Do not over-tighten.
Step 8– Remove the rag and place the new wax seal on the drain.
Step 9– Carefully lower the new toilet in place using the closet bolts as a guide.
Step 10 – Gently push down on the bowl to create a seal with the wax ring.
Step 11– Tighten the closet bolts, alternating sides to keep the pressure even.
Step 12– If the bolts are too long cut them off with a hacksaw and cover with the caps.
Step 13– Install the toilet seat according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
Step 14 - Reconnect the water supply and turn on the water at the valve.
Step 15 - Seal the base with silicone caulk.
